Pianist, composer and humanitarian Keiko Matsui’s spirit and music knows no boundaries. Kimberly Ford says her singing career is bathed in “Blue.” In the early 1970s, when she was learning to sing, Ford used that Joni Mitchell album as a primer.
Mitchell’s words, music and soul-baring honesty “articulated my experiences before I had language for them,” says Ford, a singer, vocal teacher and president of the Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation.
Ford is pouring her deep love and respect for Mitchell’s music into a new tribute band, A Celebration of Joni Mitchell. The group — featuring Ford on vocals, George Friedenthal on keyboards, Lee Rollag on guitar and violin, Tom Buckner on saxophone, Tom Etchart on bass and Charles Levin on drums — will perform in the Tower Theatre Lounge.
The group digs deep into the catalog of the legendary Mitchell, who is recovering from a brain aneurysm she suffered in March. They trace her evolution from progressive folkie to rock, jazz and world music master. Expect to hear songs from such classic Mitchell albums as “Clouds,” “Ladies of the Canyon,” “Night Ride Home,” “Both Sides Now” and, of course, “Blue.”

Together At Last
A Match Made In Las Vegas
They never worked together, exactly, but it’s intriguing to think what it would have been like to see Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra in concert together! Just imagine the possibilities. Could they share the spotlight? Would one have out-performed the other? Would their stage banter have been everything we’d hoped for?
Unfortunately, Streisand and Sinatra never shared the same stage, that is until Barbra & Frank, The Concert That Never Was, starring Sharon Owens and Sebastian Anzaldo. For more than a decade, Sharon and Sebastian have paid tribute to the superstars they adore, singing the most memorable music and songs ever written.
The rapport between the two icons is immediate and electric. What’s On magazine states, “As good as the music is, the banter between the stars is equally memorable.”
Barbra & Frank have held long-run headline residencies at the historic Riviera and Westin on the Las Vegas strip, played the famous Rainbow Room in New York, NY and toured the US appearing in theaters, showrooms, casinos and at corporate events. International dates include, Germany, Holland, Great Britain and Hong Kong, China.
Whether fans are reliving memories through the songs they’ve loved for years, or are experiencing Barbra & Frank for the first time, this “must see” show captures the imagination and brings to life the spirit of two of the most beloved legends ever to grace a stage.
Brian is always striving to push the boundaries of the jazz scene, which is evident by his forthcoming album, Funk! due out this September. This new set is a throwback to the stanky P-Funk records from back in the day combining infectious bass lines, greasy horn licks, sing-a-long hooks and of course, landing hard on the One. This record is also a follow-up to his widely successful Bringing Back The Funk album from 2008, which was co-produced by the late Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire.
Men Are From Mars – Women Are From Venus-LIVE! is a hilarious fusion between theatre and stand-up, based on the number one best selling book from acclaimed author John Gray.

Before Mötley Crüe, before RATT, even before there was a Metallica, Y&T was slogging away in sweaty rock clubs around America. When the band formed in the early 1970s, little did they know they would set the standard for hard rock bands that trailed. Many of the biggest acts of the '80s became popular opening for headliners Y&T—and cut their teeth on the band, as evidenced by the Y&T mentions in tell-all books by acts such as Metallica and Mötley Crüe.
